descripción

As the Swiss philosopher Max Picard argued in 1948, “Nothing has changed the nature of man so much as the loss of silence”. This loss of silence reflects the disastrous secularisation and progressively materialistic direction of life. Our living environment is filled with a rising din and a profusion of visual noise, creating a sea of distracting stimuli that is draining the world of its mystery and poetry, as well as its sensuous appeal. This issue explores the spectrum between silence and noise, in the interest of human well-being. With contributions by Marloe Mens, Ian McCallum, and more, plus interviews with author, traveller, and photographer Arita Baaijens and artist Melanie Bonajo.

O, Wonder! 2 explores how we listen to the world around us and where we might find silence today: Sounds Like Silence.

O, Wonder 2 is featuring artist Giuseppe Licari photographs toxic landscapes, author Eva Meijer interviews Prix de Rome nominee Melanie Bonajo about animals and wilderness, explorer Arita Baaijens talks about her nomadic life in the desert and ecologist Li An Phoa teaches us to walk. Plus contributions from Merel Bem, Yasmine Ostendorf, Joanna van der Zanden, among others.

The world we inhabit tomorrow is ours to envision today. O, Wonder! Magazine on Green Culture, presents alternative ideas by creative thinkers and artists committed to our transition to a sustainable life. Founding editor is Colette Olof who worked for many years in the fields of photography and contemporary art.
