The Skirt Chronicles was founded by Sarah de Mavaleix, Sofia Nebiolo and Haydée Touitou as a collaborative platform with the ambition of creating a community which celebrates diverse cultures and generations. It is a publication founded by women which reflects a feminine voice yet does not exclude anyone from the conversation.
We have been making The Skirt Chronicles for almost five years now, always organically, building a publication we are looking forward to reading ourselves twice a year. It sometimes feels as though we are watching it being made before our own eyes, naturally unfolding with its own tenderness and self.
The first three Volumes of The Skirt Chronicles were made in total discovery, everything was new, each day learning more and more about what we were embarking upon. Then, Volumes IV, V, and VI were so fun to make, taking everyone by surprise—we were there. The following three were made sometimes remotely, yet never disconnected, at a time that challenged the world.
We all have our favorites, and we’re quite sure you do too. Maybe it will be this one, Volume IX, as you’re playing table tennis in a galaxy far, far away. Or are you waiting for Mira, Toyin, and Edmund to finish their conversation with Maurice Blanchot in Tbilisi. Perhaps you prefer balancing loads and Joséphine in Bloomsbury by a spikey tree heavy with fruit stones. If not, there is always the bureau by the vines on the summit of the funny rose.
