TRAVEL UNA (United Native Acumen) is a travel guide that investigates the roots of Kyushu and uncovers the beauty and wisdom contained within, one theme at a time.
The inaugural issue of TRAVEL UNA, a Kyushu travel design magazine, will be published in late January. This issue’s feature is “A Journey to Discover Native Textiles.”
In this issue we delve into the “native textiles” of Kyushu, which are crafted in consideration to the island’s climate and history. We begin by taking a closer look at Kurume Kasuri, Kyushu’s traditional dyed, patterned textiles through which we introduce unique and meticulously-designed fabrics that are high-quality, affordable, and functional.
TRAVEL UNA is a project of UNA Laboratories, a travel design firm that works along with visitors to explore such cultural aspects of Kyushu, and uncover the beauty and knowledge embedded within the region.
Kyushu is a land with a unique cultural landscape, shaped by a long history of exchange with China, Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Appreciate the traditional craftsmanship of textiles and ceramics, indulge in dishes with fresh ingredients from land and sea, unwind in a rich variety of hot springs, and observe a unique tradition of beliefs embedded with traces of Christianity.
