Ann Rand (1918-2007) trained as an architect at IIT, where she studied with Mies van der Rohe. She was the author of several children's books: Little 1, Sparkle and Spin, and I Know a Lot of Things.
Ingrid King is a painter who also trained as an architect. She is a coauthor of A Pattern Language, first published in 1977 and still one of the most influential books on architecture and planning ever published. She lives in Berkeley, California.
