Learn to grow and cook incredible mushrooms at home.
The Mushroomery is an ode to the pleasures of growing mushrooms. The book presents projects to do at home, focused on growing a variety of varieties. Each project includes an introduction, step-by-step instructions —accompanied by photographs—, as well as a wealth of tips, tricks, and solutions to possible problems. The second part of the book offers more than 20 dishes where mushrooms are the stars, including recipes to preserve them through pickling or drying, techniques that also help enhance their flavor.
The growing projects cover various methods: the use of kits, buckets, jars, logs, or bags. It also includes information about mushrooms and their classification, mycology, the life cycle of mushrooms, and foraging in nature. A practical glossary helps the reader become familiar with mycological terminology; likewise, guidance is offered on the necessary equipment —and where to acquire it—, the ingredients (such as spores), and sterilization processes.
Written by Buttons —a mushroom expert and owner of The Mushroomery, an urban growing company in Melbourne (Australia) that supplies the best restaurants in the city—, this book will teach you to grow, harvest, and cook delicious mushrooms at home in a simple way.
