A5 Notebook - Full Moon
A5 Notebook - Full Moon
These notebooks are designed for notes and reflections as well as sketches and drawings, offering an expanded experience compared to a conventional notebook. They feature blank pages, lined pages, and illustrations in the center.
This notebook features a selection of Hiroshige’s polychrome woodblock prints centered on the theme of the moon (tsuki), specifically the full moon (mangetsu). This celestial body—whose contemplation is a common practice in Japan—appears in picturesque or spectacular scenes, always in the presence of water. These works demonstrate Hiroshige’s mastery of bokashi (an inking technique using gradations), but above all, his vivid and delicate recreation of the ever-changing natural world and the bustle of human life; a style that would later inspire Japonisme, Impressionism, and Van Gogh in 19th-century Europe.
