László Réber (1920-2001) was a Hungarian cartoonist famous for his numerous collaborations with two of his country's most influential children's authors, Éva Janikovszky and Ervin Lázár. His style is simple and full of humor, with originality being one of its main characteristics. Réber was a prisoner in a concentration camp in the USSR after World War II, and it was there that he learned to draw. Before the war, he had been famous as a javelin thrower. His first works as a cartoonist were for the magazine Matyi Ludas and for animated cartoons. He received numerous awards in his country and also some international recognition, proof of his influence beyond its borders and his unmistakable style.
