Lola and Estrella are two young friends who live together on the slope of a mountain, a beautiful and fantastic place. Estrella has a very peculiar power: she can communicate with the mycelium, or the very roots of their planet, Matria. The girls' lives are quite peaceful. When they are not with the gnomes eating strawberries or playing cards, they go to visit Queen Cabra or check if any new books have arrived in town. But one morning, everything changes. Their valley and their entire community are threatened. Strange machines are destroying the land and have just left the gnomes homeless. Neither of the girls is particularly adventurous, but they know they cannot stand idly by and decide to embark on a journey to find answers. A journey that will take them far from home.

Lola and Estrella is the debut children's comic by artist Ricardo Cavolo. Known for his fashion and culture campaigns, as well as his murals in countless countries, Cavolo already had an extensive editorial career as an illustrator, among others, of several of Lorca's poetry collections or the unmistakable Periferias (Lunwerg, 2017). In 2024, his first children's album dedicated to his son León and children with ADHD is published. In Lola and Estrella, the author develops a story of travel and friendship, incorporating several of the most emblematic themes of his work: young people with special abilities, marginalized towns and unknown cultures, colorful fantasy worlds, encounters that enrich and build community. In the adventure of Lola and Estrella, planned in two volumes, Cavolo has unleashed his talent as an illustrator, with beautiful pages that take us on a necessary journey: the one we undertake when our home is in danger.
