This is the first comprehensive book on the creative universe of NIGO (Tomoaki Nagao), tracing his journey from 1980s Tokyo to becoming a global style icon, through his career as an influential fashion designer, DJ, and record producer.

With contributions from NIGO, Pharrell, Yoon Ahn, Tiffany Godoy, Esme Hawes, and Rachel Hajek.

A Bathing Ape (BAPE), NIGO's pioneering streetwear brand, was inspired by his passion for American hip-hop and pop culture; nearly 30 years later, he became the artistic director of the luxury fashion house KENZO. He has also collaborated on projects such as Billionaire Boys Club, alongside Pharrell Williams, and is a member of the hip-hop supergroup Teriyaki Boyz.

Created in close collaboration with NIGO and his team, this profusely illustrated book includes texts by leading figures in fashion, design, and culture, as well as personal reflections from three of his current collaborators (Pharrell Williams, TET Nishiyama, and Fraser Cooke).

The volume features previously unpublished photographs, taken specifically for this work, focusing on objects from NIGO's personal archive—many of which are published here for the first time. These items include mementos from his youth, collectible items, vintage clothing, music and film-related objects, and printed material; all of which have served as the foundation for his subsequent creative work. The book also explores his more recent foray into pottery, a discipline in which he has trained alongside ceramic artists, while also learning the rituals of the Japanese tea ceremony.

Immersing the reader in NIGO's world, this volume examines how various creative elements—such as urban culture, American aesthetics, and Japanese traditions—have influenced this multifaceted artist, who has been shaping contemporary culture for more than three decades.
