A captivating look at contemporary nomadic cultures around the world, offering a timely perspective on alternative ways of life that connect us to our ancestral roots.

There was a time when all humans were nomads. Today, our homes, cars, and modern conveniences keep us disconnected from the natural world. But some nomadic cultures have managed to survive the vicissitudes of history. They herd their livestock across the Arctic tundra or follow ancient trade routes through the Sahara Desert. They travel light, living in easily dismantled temporary structures. They have a deep understanding and respect for the environment they inhabit; they care for it so that it can care for them.

This book examines seven contemporary nomadic cultures, from the Nenets of Siberia to the Yanomami of the Amazon rainforest. Their lifestyles and traditions offer a glimpse into a simpler way of life, connecting us to the history of ancient humanity and to this planet we all call home.

Kinchoi Lam is a Hong Kong-based artist and picture book creator. He recently graduated with a Master's degree in Children's Book Illustration from Cambridge School of Art and won the 2021 Batsford Prize. He was also shortlisted for the 2020 World Illustration Awards and selected for the Bologna exhibition.
