Food& is an experimental editorial project that explores unusual encounters with food.

In this issue on food and censorship:

Camille Marie Fillioux addresses the topic by analyzing the relationship between food and censorship, arguing that it begins the moment the flow of ingredients, techniques, and flavors is interrupted.

Lars Holdgate takes us to British kitchens during World War II, where the Ministry of Food used propaganda films and radio to keep morale high while hiding the reality of rationing.

Chris Fite-Wassilak investigates mold and mites, and how a 1903 film magnifying cheese mites sparked a hygienic panic that still haunts cheesemaking today.

In addition, Andrea Volken tells us how dairy erases the mother; Genomic Gastronomy incorporates air pollution into meringues; and Ning Yan hides messages inside the food itself.

You'll find the rest between the lines: censorship as militarized order and rationing of appetite; platforms and algorithms that silently decide which foods matter; deletion and euphemism; and the small acts of resistance that, despite everything, manage to go unnoticed.
