After hundreds of years, the imagination of the Japanese has been filled with supernatural creatures, monsters called yôkai, which we often find in the universe of manga.

They serve to give a name and form to all those bizarre things that are difficult to explain. For example, one might say that a tsunami was caused by Bakekujira, the phantom whale, the vengeful spirit of a whale that was killed. A jealous woman who has been cheated on might turn into a menacing monster. A fox wounded by a hunter might transform into a Kitsune and burn down its attacker's house…
The nature of yōkai is never black and white. They are rarely completely good or evil. They are always somewhere in between. Sometimes they are kind and benevolent, and often terrifying!

Fleur Daugey She is a writer, journalist, and ethologist. Her inspiration comes primarily from the creatures that inhabit nature, although her favorite subject of study is humankind.

Sandrine Thommen She was born in Cévennes. She first studied at the Estienne school and later at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, where she currently lives after having traveled all over the world.
