Designed for notes and reflections as well as sketches and drawings, these notebooks offer an expanded experience compared to a conventional notebook. They feature blank pages, lined pages, and illustrations in the center.

They are based on Étienne Léopold Trouvelot's (1827–1895) Astronomical Drawings, published in New York in 1881. They were created from observations the painter and scientist made between 1872 and 1881 at the Harvard College Observatory in Cambridge and the United States Naval Observatory in Washington. The works depict various objects in the solar system, as well as meteoric and luminous phenomena.
