Found by chance through expert and enthusiast blogs on the Internet, Blast Off has remained unpublished for several years, an underrated gem that remains relevant today for the issues it raises: anti-racism, gender equality and ecology, and for the impressive minimalist illustrations and the creative skills of the main girl Regina Williams, who once again teaches us the importance of the limitless imagination of girls and boys.

After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 1956, Leo and Diane Dillon married and began their career together blending personal styles into what they called “The Third Artist.” Early in their career, they sought work with a wide variety of clients in advertising, book covers, movie posters, album covers, magazines, illustration and soon found a penchant for fantasy and science fiction illustration and children's books. . They dedicated their work to including all peoples and especially those who were rarely included in fantasy or children's books in the 1950s.

When their son, Lee, was born in 1965, they saw an even greater need for diversity in children's books and found themselves coloring the white faces in the books.

Over more than 50 years dedicated to illustration, they have received numerous awards for their lifetime contributions to science fiction and fantasy art.
