This book is at once an exhibition catalog and an invitation to play a tabletop roleplaying game about a group of forgetful utopians longing for a better future, but constantly forgetting their past.

“The Forgetful Kindred” was a solo exhibition by Francis Patrick Brady, curated by Marie Dufresne, in 2025 at Kunsthal 6100. The exhibition was structured around game rules that invited one to create a character and join a fictional utopian scouting movement called the FKK, loosely inspired by the real British scouting movement of the 1920s, the Kibbo Kift.

As well as documenting the flags, ceremonial costumes, hand painted tent, illustrations, and contributions by others that arose from the world created between the artist and playing public in the small town of Haderslev in Southern Denmark, this book also contains the full rules for a roleplaying game to be played at home with between 2 to 6 players. This is a historical writing and symbol drawing tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG), where you and some friends imagine and draw out the history of your own group of forgetful utopians. You create your own symbols and stories, forming a little history book, but over time your hope fades, just as your memory does. Slowly the pages of the history book become torn, forgotten, or altered over time.

Part fictional scouting field guide, part game book, part history tome, part spell book of a forgotten mundane magic.
